Subdomain FTP problem

I've created a subdomain.....can get to it with:

http://subdomain.mydomain.com
http://mydomain.com/subdomain

Created an FTP user with the same name as the subdomain.

The problem is that I can't FTP into the subdomain, I've tried every combination of username and password that I can think of.

Anybody have any ideas?.

Oops

I've just realised that the only people who can FTP into my server are the account holders?. Anybody have any ideas why no other users are able to FTP in?.

Yep, I'm using the correct syntax. I tried it from the windows ftp client, it connected to the service, accepted the usernames but said that the passwords were incorrect!!!...Bloody annoying!!.
