subdomain ftp vanishes?

There is a person on one of our servers who creates subdomains and then an ftp account for it, and it works fine for several days - then the ftp account just disappears.

Any reason why this would be happening, and on one account only? Any suggestions, or answers?

*edit - could this possibly occur when cpanel updates are done?*
