http://subdomain.domain.com redirects to a directory correctly, but https://subdomain.domain.com is not redirecting to the same page which should be "/public_html/subdomaindirectory".

I'm sure there is probably a fairly simple configuration change that can at least be manually edited, but am sort of drawing a blank.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply.

The URL https://subdomain.domain.com is actually foregoing the subdomain altogether and resolves to simply http(s)://domain.com whereas http://subdomain.domain.com resolves to http://domain.com/subdomaindirectory as it should. Does that makes sense?

I followed the instruction to manually create the subdomain.domain.com_SSL and after rebuilding the httpd.conf and restarting the service, the https:// technically works, but it does not retain the subdomain.domain.com format in the address bar. It changes to https://domain.com/subdomaindirectory/ . Very strange. There may be another setting in the _SSL file they're referencing in the other forum post.

Let me know if this makes sense and if you have any suggestions. I will keep hunting on this end.

If my SSL certificate is not wildcard may I apply correct entry for https subdomain to "/public_html/subdomaindirectory" ? I know it will be not trusted by web browser, but is it possible technically to redirect correct folder?

You don't have to redirect it at all, but you can still hit it on the subdomain yes. It will show as untrusted, but you'd still have it encrypted anyway. The reason it would still work for the subdomain even though untrusted is because the subdomains are on the same IP as the main domain, so anything on that same IP can use the SSL certificate and hit https in a browser under the subdomain name.
