I'm wondering if it's possible to have a sub-domain point to a different IP/server than the root domain. I'm in the process of migrating to a new server for our new website and want to set up a dev account.

So I'd like dev.website.com to point to a different IP than website.com.

What sucks is that our IT manager controls the DNS/records for website.com and is telling me I can't do this, but I'm pretty sure I can...

    Hello :),

Yes, You can setup your dev.website.com domain "A" record to any other server. You just need to create dev.website.com account on your remote server.
