Subdomain set to public_html

I want to create a language subdomain for an existing site. e.g. es.example.com with the document root set to public_html/ (not public_html/es/).

Am I correct in thinking that the existing files and directories in public_html will not be overwritten during this process?

Hello :)

Yes, that's correct. When you enter a document root, it does not delete any files already in that directory.
