Sudden large increase in spam levels

Howdy,

I'm nominally in charge of a WHM/cPanel server with around 120 cPanel accounts on it. Users have reported a large upsurge in spam levels over the past couple of weeks: we're receiving a lot of spam ourselves too.

SpamAssassin is enabled and running. I've put the severity to 1 on a few accounts (ours included) but we're still getting an awful lot of spam through.

Can anyone advise? Timing appears to tally with a WHM update which I approved a couple of weeks ago, but I'm not certain that the two facts are necessarily linked.

Are you sure spamd is successfully scanning messages? Watch /var/log/exim_mainlog - you'll see spamassassin notes on each incoming email, marking it as spam or marking it as not spam.
