Switching addon domain with master domain. Possible?

I've done a couple of quick searches and I can't seem to find another thread that deals with this (though there probably is somewhere here), so I'll give it a shot and ask...

I have a customer who has an addon domain within their main account. They want to get rid of the current master domain and make their addon domain the new master account.

Is there a proper/recommended way to do this?

If you have WHM, you can simply change the domain of the master to the addon. Just remember to backup any files for safety precautions, you never know what could possibly happen.
