After reading the security advisory - how seamless is it to make the switch? Is there anything else I need to do other than making the change in WHM?

switching to pure-ftpd is rarely an issue, all you need to do is Switch to it under FTP Configuration in WHM.

    PureFTPD

I have installed (under the 15 day trial license) cpanel several times over the past 7 days. I too received this error, and Service Manager emails last friday when I swapped ftps. It seemed as though the service manager was still checking for proftpd and not seeing that pure was running. After reinstalling cpanel (testing install with a new raid card in system) on Monday, the problem does not occur, and the system reconizes pure just fine. Perhaps something changed in the cpanel code between my installs? If that is the case updating may fix it.

    just my 0.02 :)
