    We just noticed that for the last few months all new email accounts created by clients on all our CPanel servers are causing a symlink to be created in the site's mail folder pointing to the actual new email account folder.

    eg. For the domain mydomain.com with an email account created as fred@mydomain.com, a symlink is created in folder mail as...

    .fred\@mydomain_com -> mydomain.com/fred/

    The effect is that it allows the primary site admin to login to horde and access their own email and also the email of any of the sub-user accounts for which the symlink is created. That's back to the behavior of the old mbox format. Because of this, I'm guessing it's an intended feature that's been added at some time, but I can't find any reference to it in the changelog.

    Does anyone have any information on this?

    Can the behavior be disabled via any configuration option?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    LBJ

    This was added during the development of cPanel 11. Specifically it was added sometime during Winter/Spring 2007. There is no way of disabling the creation of the symlinks.

    Thanks for that.

    Is there a supplied script to create symlinks for older existing accounts or do we need to code that ourselves? As it is, only the more recently created accounts have symlinks which is a bit confusing for the client site administrators.

    We found the following standard script which does what's required...

    /scripts/linksubemailtomainacct
