I am getting reports from this server that people cant check or send mail so I check WHM and the first thing I see in system status is this

    exim (packageeximisnotinstalled)

Right beside it is the report that exim is up and running.

I tried running /scripts/exim4 but all I got was errors.

If I make a change in the exim config in WHM when I click save i see the following implying the correct version of exim is installed

That is followed by a bunch of info and at the bottom it says exim has failed to restart.

Im in the midst of a /upcp --force but I dont think that will fix anything. In searching I will try a /scripts/exim4 --latest and see what that does as well as look thru the messages log for more info on why exim is failing to restart.

when I run /scripts/exim4 I get the following output.

The errors concern me somewhat. Im not sure why they are appearing or what to do to correct them.

This is odd. When I restart exim via ssh I see the following.

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/exim restart
Shutting down clamd: [ OK ]
Shutting down exim: [ OK ]
Shutting down antirelayd: [ OK ]
Shutting down spamd: [ OK ]
    Starting clamd: [ OK ]
    Starting exim: [ OK ]
    Starting exim-smtps: [ OK ]
    Starting antirelayd: [ OK ]
Starting spamd: Could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use (IO::Socket::INET: Address already in use)
    [FAILED]

yet if I do /scripts/restartsrv spamd I get

    /scripts/restartsrv spamd
    Waiting for spamd to restart..............finished.

    root 330 4.7 0.9 23392 19392 ? D 15:08 0:00 /usr/bin/spamd -d --allowed-ips=127.0.0.1 --pidfile=/var/run/spamd.pid --max-children=5

    spamd started ok
    root@server3 [/scripts]# ps -ef | grep spamd
    root 330 1 0 15:08 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/spamd -d --allowed-ips=127.0.0.1 --pidfile=/var/run/spamd.pid --max-children=5
    root 358 330 0 15:09 ? 00:00:00 spamd child
    root 359 330 0 15:09 ? 00:00:00 spamd child
    root 360 330 0 15:09 ? 00:00:00 spamd child
    root 361 330 0 15:09 ? 00:00:00 spamd child
    root 362 330 0 15:09 ? 00:00:00 spamd child

When I send a test message to a valid e-mail address on that server the e-mail ends up going to the main cpanel inbox for that account vs going to the individual mailbox. I dont see a foward or catchall thats setup to do this so I dont know or understand why its doing what its doing.

I got the following error when trying the first line.

I have since opened a ticket with our datacenter as to why this system is not registered with the redhat network. Its running RHE3.
