Ok, I have a hosting account with Totalchoicehosting who uses c-panel. Up until the recent upgrade I have been completely happy however this new upgrade is ---- severely ---- slow.

My service requires me to activate multiple e-mail accounts daily. It used to take minutes now it takes what could be hours. Once you activate 1 account then hit backpage to activate another it just holds you in limbo....

This is not just my computer (s) of which I have several. I also logged in from a friends location same problem...

Basically to add roughly 4 e-mail accounts now it will take me about 30 minutes vs 5 minutes previously.

I spoke to totalchoice about the problem and they simply stated it is a cpanel issue.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you be more specific regarding where you are activating these email addresses in cPanel or WHM? I do not recall such functionality in the software.

    CpanelDAvidG Thanks for replying

Ok, thank you for replying. First I hope this is the right site. To my understanding these server companies (hosting companies) use cpanel for their backbone administrative....

What I type in is http://www.mywebsite.com/cpanel it then asks for a username and password...

After this the NEW screen gives you a few categories.

    Preferences
    Mail
    Files
    Logs
    Security
    Domains
    Databases
    Software Services
    Advanced

I then goto the mail category and select email accounts it is from here that I can activate an individual email account. And this is where I am having the serious delay..

Again, thank you for getting back to me.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with WHM... I just know I type in "c-panel" :) and I apologize if somehow I am on the wrong board.

Okay, so essentially your hosting provider's server is being a bit laggy when creating new accounts?

I use cPanel 11 for my personal websites as well as in-house for testing purposes and haven't come across that particular issue when creating email accounts. It definitely shouldn't take several minutes to create a single email account.

It's possible there's a configuration issue on their servers that's causing it to lag. I'd recommend you politely ask them to submit a support request to their cPanel licensing provider so it can be looked into. All our licensing providers (note we also sell licenses directly) must provide support. However some providers do offer an option to acquire a license at a slightly discounted rate if they're willing to sacrifice that support option.

You're probably with the wrong host if they can't solve your problem for you. As for slow, at the bottom of your cPanel account page, there is an option to disable all images. Does ticking that speed up page load at all?

You might also check to see if there is a server status link in there. If so, whats it tell you about the server load, how full the drive on the server is and so on.

Mind grabbing a screenshot of your cPanel page and post it here? Just curious if they're even giving you the default cPanel page, or some custom theme they have issues with since the new cPanel upgrades came out.

It's always easiest to blame cPanel, more often than not, IMHO, its not cPanel at all but the host with the problems.

    Thank You again for responding

I will do exactly that. They have been good at handling technical concerns up until this point. I was under the impression they had little to no control over c-panel....

    Thanks

    cPanelDavidG and Infopro

I appreciate the guesses at the problem, however, you are both wrong. Of course that is always the case when you don't have all the details. I'm not sure why our customer is seeking help here and since we are a license provider the issue is being handled on our end.

What our customer failed to mention here is the fact that they currently have over 900 email accounts. The delay IS caused by the X3 theme not being able to handle such a large list(time to code in some pagination, eh?).

We have reverted their theme back to X2 as a temporary fix and will be submitting a new bug for this. Once again, thanks for trying to help and we have advised out customer that there is no point in seeking assistance in these forums.

900 email accounts huH? That'll do it every time. You're absolutely right that lack-of-information definitely leaves the door open for a lot of unnecessary speculation. As soon as you said '900 email accounts' you didn't have to say anymore - I knew the what their problem was too ;)

There was a post about this issue with someone else a while back, it never registered with me that this might be similar.

Just curious, did you mention to him that he had 900 email accounts and that was the problem, and he failed to mention it here?

At any rate, thanks for clearing it up on this end for all users who come by asking. It'll be the first thing I think of next time it comes up.

I definitely passed that information along, as problems are always easier to troubleshoot when you have all the facts.

My clients also complain of slow cpanel after upgrade to 11

I have had some scattered complaints of cPanel running agonizingly slowly for some clients after the upgrade to CP 11.

I will try switching them to an older skin and ask them if it improves.

The thing I don't understand is that they call complaining that it is slow, and then I log into THEIR cPanel right then, and I don't have any problem... so it's not just a matter of their having a lot of email accounts, or it would be slow for me.

Anyone else having similar issues? Anyone have a solution that is more than a shot in the dark?

The X3 theme does load a little slower for me than previous themes did. However, do NOT use 'old' themes unless you are prepared to lose some potential functionality for your customers. The reason why X3 is there and is recommended as default is because it has features that the X (and other previous themes) do not have.

For the most part though, the /cpanel interface seems usable for me. The only time I see this as being problematic is when one has to add / manage email accounts and forwarders when they have 100 or more of them. It can be overwhelmingly slow to manage email accounts when you have that many to manage.

I've noticed that using IE gives an appearance of slowness as the way it renders the interface is very different than FireFox, Safari, Opera or Konqueror. With X3, IE tends to display most the Stats Bar and header graphics, but takes several seconds to display the icons. This on a LAN, rather than remote.

As to issues reported with large numbers of email accounts, add on domains, etc., recently we added improve caching, display and pagination capabilities to most of the areas of X3 that display long lists. This has improved display speed dramatically, even on LAN tests.

I am set up for MANUAL upgrades to STABLE versions... Is there a particular version I should wait for that will give me this improved version of X3? Or is there a way to just get the new, improved X3 skin?
