Have a client cannot send email, and i cant either via thunderbird. I have used the same settings as my working email client (not thunderbird) i have added the spf for the ip, i have whitelisted the ip, i have tried SSL TLS, no authentication, mail.. , hostname..., smtp.... and a ton of other things and it will not authenticate and i dont know why.

Tech was very good and we were able to send mail via port 587 and the host name. However we believe there is a real issue with thunderbird and it would not pass validation. The tech also stated that it may be due to the cipher as well. But we both agreed we think there is an issue with thunderbird.

Tech ended up having to restore Exim back to the default (after making a backup) and then we were able to send mail. So not a perfect solution but i do believe the client will be happy with this.

Now remember that i have an SSL on both my hosting domain name and also my host name so for example: i have a SSL on myhostingcompany.com and i also have an SSL for hostname.myhostingcompany.com

The config for the thunderbird is as follows, i will also include an image here.

hostname.yourhost.com

(dont take the defaults for host, so if your host is myhostingcompany.com and their host name is server5 then you dont use your domain name you use their host name and their domain name ie. server5.myhostingcompany.com)

port 587
Encryption: STARTTLS
He is an image i made for our knowledgebase, your free to edit this and use it for yours. I thought twice about posting this here because of spammers but then again, if they want my info they will get it one way or another ya know... so whats the use... Besides if this helps someone then the positive outways the negative.. Enjoy..

When you say the problem is with the latest version of thunderbird, is this with a windoze box or a Linux box? we use the latest thunderbird on Linux ( mageia) desktop/laptops and all is well.

Interesting, we have 6 mail accounts set up in thunderbird and all work OK. However Mageia Linux use the ESR version, so the latest thunderbird is 24.7 ESR

I did notice this also

under the security tab exim config manager

Require clients to connect with SSL or issue the STARTTLS command before they are allowed to authenticate with the server Disabled
