There is no way to delete the older than 30 days mails through cPanel
There is a way to have deleted messages expunged automatically, without needing to do anything in the shell, only if you use Courier-IMAP. This is not available with Dovecot.

You can switch to Courier-IMAP in the WebHost Manager in Home » Service Configuration » Mailserver Selection . You can configure the interval after which deleted mail is expunged in Home » Service Configuration » Mailserver Configuration .

More information about this is available in our documentation:

Mailserver Selection
Mailserver Configuration

By default, Courier-IMAP will automatically empty only the "Trash" folder, but you can add other folders (such as "Spam") to be automatically emptied as well, in Mailserver Configuration . The same interval applies to all the folders you configure to be automatically deleted.

Thank you so much! I have to admit, I was surprised, with how awesome cPanel is, that a feature like that would have been overlooked. Glad to hear it's an option. Thank you so much! Anyone know if there are any major downsides or issues I may run up against by switching from the Dovecot to the Courier-IMAP?

Home » Service Configuration » Mailserver Selection has a table that actually does a pretty good job of showing the pros and cons of each service. There are also links to more specific information about each service in our documentation:

Mailserver Selection

Automatic emptying of trash is planned for Dovecot in cPanel 11.40, so when 11.40 is published, the option will be available in both services, but in 11.38 it is only available in Courier-IMAP.

Thanks for the help! Since Dovecot uses less resources & is apparantly more highly configurable, I'll go ahead and wait for cPanel 11.40. I'm in no rush, but do you have a target date or month of when you expect the release?

cPanel 11.39, which is what will eventually become 11.40, is scheduled to go to the EDGE update tier this week, which will be its first exposure to the public. The EDGE tier should not be used on production servers, so I definitely do not recommend using EDGE just for this feature. Unfortunately, I do not have an estimate at this time for when 11.40 will be in public tiers. 11.39 will become 11.40 when it is pushed to the CURRENT tier.

Keep in mind that 11.38 is planned to go to STABLE today, so 11.38 has not made its way down to all update tiers quite yet.

Yes, here is a snippet from the 11.40 release notes:

Dovecot upgraded to 2.2
Dovecot has been upgraded to version 2.2 in cPanel & WHM 11.40. This will allow the Trash and Deleted Messages to be auto-expunged, providing improved performance and better disk space management.
The option is available in:

"WHM Home » Service Configuration » Mailserver Configuration"

Thank you.
