I use the FTP remote backup in WHM, and I get this error when a quite big account is being transfered:

    Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/Net/FTP.pm line 776

Is there anything I can do to prevent this timeout? Can I raise the timeout time setting for example? Thanks.

try making a tar and copying the tar over later, and removing the files from the public_html to make the initial size smaller, and then do the rest afterwards.

Now that i have finally got the backup thing working, i am now having this problem....

Did you manage to sort it?

I can not be doing with manually backing up a load of files :( I thought that was the whole idea of this procedure :(

In my case, this is caused when the connection breaks between the server and the host the backups are being transferred to. Even if this is a half a minute network problem, I get "Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/Net/FTP.pm line 776" and the upcp script stops all together. Shouldn't it keep on going and backup the rest of the accounts? This is obviously a bug and it is pretty important.

I'm getting timeout errors as well. My daily backups only work completely maybe once or twice a week, any other time I get "Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.3/Net/FTP.pm line 789".

And it's not on a particular account either. It just times out.

    Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/Net/FTP.pm line 789

I have this same exact problem on one machine. Is there anything that can be done to fix this??? I have tried re-installing Cpanel and I just can't get my backups to work. I have other servers and the backups work fine on them.

    getting the same here.

    Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/Net/FTP.pm line 789

Amazing how this can go on for so long without a fix.

I am assuming that all files have correct permissions on them and that any firewall is setup to allow connections on the ports from the computers IP?

I had an issue similar to this but mine was in the scp module - it didnt have the correct file permissions so the process was failing.

    yea everything looks ok.

It does not happen with a specific account.
The backup runs for a while... successfully backs up a bunch of accounts then the timeout occurs and cpbackup ends regardless if there are more accounts to be backed up.

    Still no solution to this?
Got a new server and the same thing happens when using FTP backup.

I've also started getting this problem on one of my servers. Been working fine for 2 years until it suddenly stopped with the error "Timeout at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.4/Net/FTP.pm line 789" a couple of weeks ago. Always stops on the first account for me...
