    Hi,

Considering moving to cPanel from Plesk 9.5.x

How long does the migration take, not so much the actual moving of the data, but everything else.

In other words how long a period would we need to pay for duplicate servers?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Can you say the exact size? It will also depend on the transfer speed.

It is around 80GB of data.

Really trying to gauge as to how long the procedure takes (obviously assuming no issues) from putting in the request to completing the transfer. A week, 3 weeks, 2 months etc?

Also concerned about downtime for busy sites.

The transfer would be between two identical (same spec) servers at the same hosting company.

You'd do better to speak directly with the Migrations Team. They've got a page here with lots of details, you've probably already seen but I'll link to it anyway:

I could do the math and provide an estimate on data transfer and account packaging, but that doesn't seem to be what you need.

The timeline is really going to depend on your needs and circumstance. We prefer to layout a staged migration, one in which we and the customer separate domians into specific groups of consideration and tackle those clumps of domains a night or two at a time.

Besides identifying special condition domains, we also prefer to find the best way that suits each individual cPanel customer to mitigate DNS transfer; especially as it pertains to http content, mail, and database changes.

As each migration, in my experience, requires wholly different consideration than the last, a blanket answer cannot be provided. I encourage you, and anyone with the same inquiry, to submit a ticket to the migration team so that a thorough plan can be crafted. We are more than willing to hash out the necessary details so that one can be informed about and prepared for the hurdles that moving your customer base involves.

If you don't have access to licensed support at this time, please email a request to cs@cpanel.net and note your interest in migration services.

Is there an upto date email, as my email to cs@cpanel.net bounced. :(

My questions were.... (in case anyone can help)

Let's say for arguments sake that I took a new server today. What is your estimate of when the migration might begin. Are we talking about the same day, the same week, 2 weeks time etc. Not necessarily complete, just start.

I appreciate that the destination server should have no sites on it, but can test sites be created and then deleted prior to the migration?

Are all email's on the server copied over in any email accounts?

Hoping to kick start this very soon on the first server :)
