What exactly writes to the /tmp dir - I notice many sess_**************** files and i noticed one of them had kept pretty confidential information in the open.

Any ideas how I can stop those being written to a public directory.......

Those are just session files created by php scripts ( i use them for auctions, shops...etc).

Each account has its own tmp directory in /home/user/
(if not, you could create one :) )

In httpd.conf you can add the following line in the virtualhost directive:

    php_admin_value session.save_path /home/user/tmp/

Check to be sure it works ofcourse :)
