I know this has probably been asked a zillion times before (not that I could really find it), however, as I'm new to WHM/cPanel, I'm interested to know, what's the general opinion on wether to have Auto Updates (under Server Configuration >> Update Config) enabled or have it set to manual? Thanks.

we have our servers set to Never Update. When we are ready to upgrade, we will then set to manual and upgrade. When finished, we set the config back to never update. Cpanel from time to time will force a upgrade when upcp runs, even in manual setting and may break some configs. We have never had any issues this way.

    WHM Updates Automatic
    Manual Updates Only (RELEASE tree)

    cPanel Package Updates
    Automatic

    Security Package Updates
    Automatic

This has worked for us. Hasn't broken anything yet.

I always configure servers to auto-update everything. If you're worried about cPanel updates and watch the changelogs all the time, then set cPanel updates to manual. If you're running a supported enterprise OS then there really ought not be any problems having the others set to autoupdate so long as you have your OS update exclusion lists setup correctly (e.g. in yum or up2date).
