To iptables or not to iptables

I've seen conflicting reports here and elsewhere on whether or not iptables should be enabled on cPanel servers. One thing that concerns me if I do enable it, for instance, is whether or not some automatic process would come along and wipe out any rules I add to the config for things like allowing traffic on a nonstandard SSH port.

Is there a concensus from the community that I've missed?

You can safely enable iptables on cPanel servers and there is no need to worry about it.

Always setup iptables on a cpanel host, there is no reason not to. I recommend using csf to manage iptables rules for you.

Firewall is must on any server whether it is windows or linux. For linux by default iptables is installed on server.
If you are not sure how to manage it then go for csf
You can manage firewall rules easily with the help of csf GUI from WHM.
