how to try anyway?

install JDK 1.5.0 (5.0) then uninstall and reinstall tomcat using WHM?

nope.. any installation or re-installation will always result in the 1.4.2 since the cpanel dosent even know about the 1.5.0 stuff.

One thing u can try is.. install tomcat from WHM; ssh to server as root and

install 1.5.0

cd /usr/local

rm -rf jdk

ln -s j2sdk1.5.0 jdk

restart tomcat from WHM and try. this might not be fully correct; but is sure worth trying.

(dgbaker... just keep an eye on this :) )

better to inform the customer to recompile his class with JDK 1.4.2 rather upgrading our servers.

we'll wait for official release, much better :)

thanks dude!

I have a weird tomcat issue that im wondering if someone can solve...

On one of my servers i contantly have over 30 processes for tomcat showing up in top in whm:

There are all:

jsvc.exec -user tomcat -cp ./bootstrap.jar -Djava.endorsed.dirs=../common/endorsed org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap -debug -outfile ../logs/catalina.out -errfile ../logs/catalina.err -verbose -security
is this an issue i need to adress or common for tomcat?

anyone have any ideas on this tomcat seems to be going mental and opening up dozens of processes, even thought not many customers on the server are using it...

Re-Install

fFirst install did not work at all. Second install worked, however the tomcat manager does not. hehe Ya gotta love it. I should just get married again everything seems to work better the second time around. nice.

I am predicting so more problems ahead..hehe

anyone know why the installer freezes after it shows the License Txt ??

tried to install tomcat thru WHM 3 times so far - all have froze.
Not sure. But if you kill that particular perl process in shell it will finish the install (sorry, I forgot which one).

Just installed tomcat on a server and the install process completed without any errors. When starting tomcat from WHM it fails. /usr/sbin/starttomcat showed errors until I updated the script with dgbakers fix.

-Djava.endorsed.dirs=$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/common/endorsed",
"org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap",
"-debug","-outfile","$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/logs/catalina.out",
"-errfile","$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/logs/catalina.err","-verbose","-security");

I am showing tomcat process running but tomcat is not listening on port 8080.
The processes are,
[email protected]# ps aux |grep tomcat
root 28896 0.0 0.0 1584 516 ? S 15:46 0:00 jsvc.exec -user tomcat -cp ./bootstrap.jar -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/common/endorsed org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap -debug -outfile /usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/logs/catalina.out -errfile /usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/logs/catalina.err

When I try starting it using the catalina.sh script I get the following errors
[email protected]# ./catalina.sh run

Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/jakarta/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.7

Check to see whether jsvc has been compiled. You'll find it in
/usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/bin
if it has.
If it has not, then go to
/usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/bin/jsvc-src
and run

./configure --with-java=/usr/java
make
cp jsvc ../

Then go to
/usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/bin
and run

./shutdown.sh
./catalina.sh run

And it should start running for you. At least it did for me.

My way:

1. kill the hanging installer script via bash, twice.
2. install servelets via whm on an account
3. run /usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/bin]# ./startup.sh

it works

Hi Guys

Apache Tomcat/5.5.7

EVN I TRIED http://domain.com/jsptest.jsp but got same error as above.

didnt you installed tomcat at :8080 have you tried http://www.domain.com:8080/jpwstest.jps
instead?

by the way i am using tomcats with just one root user (myself) so everytime i user needs to deploy WAR a file i upload it after inspecting it's syntax, etc

so can one .JPS file be used to browser someother users directory /home/user for instance?

or can it be used to spam, ? does anyone knows some security concerns to be pointed in here? or it is totaly safe?

best regards

CLaudio

Edit /usr/sbin/starttomcat

Change
Code:
"-Djava.endorsed.dirs=../common/endorsed",
        "org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap",
        "-debug","-outfile","../logs/catalina.out",
        "-errfile","../logs/catalina.err","-verbose","-security");
To
Code:
"-Djava.endorsed.dirs=$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/common/endorsed",
        "org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap",
        "-debug","-outfile","$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/logs/catalina.out",
        "-errfile","$ENV{JAKARTA_HOME}/logs/catalina.err","-verbose","-security");
I still get the following error:
