    Has anyone else had any success with the manager app?

    what I have done so far:

    1.) Uncheck "install and keep updated" tomcat (after it is installed.)

    2.) chown root server.xml

    3.) edit to add:

    <Context path="/manager" debug="0" privileged="true" docBase="/usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/server/webapps/manager"/>

    to all my host containers

    4.) chown tomcat server.xml

    now I have an ant build for my servlet that has:

    <target name="deploy-remote" depends="war" description="Deploys WAR into remote servlet container">
    <deploy url="${remote.tomcat.manager.url}"
    username="${remote.tomcat.manager.username}"
    password="${remote.tomcat.manager.password}"
    path="/${context}" war="${site.build.dir}/${context}.war"
    update="true"/>
    </target>

    when I run it, and point it to the manager for the virtual host, I get:

    permission denied /home/username/public_html

    so telnet again...

    chmod 770 /home/username/public_html

    Bing. It works and deploys the servlet.

    My questions...

    1.) How can I edit server.xml without chowning it?
    2.) Is a permission fixer script going to take away group write perms on public_html? is there a better answer than letting group nobody have write access?
