Track down bandwidth hog

According to WHM, my server used more than twice as much bandwidth this month as compared to last month. The increase began on Sept 3 (where it doubled the normal average), then by Sept 5 it had increased by another 50%. This all shows as HTTP traffic.

But, according to Google Analytics, my actual traffic is DOWN by 3.77% from last month! So a 150% increase in bandwidth doesn't make sense.

Any suggestions on how I can track down what used all of the bandwidth?

Unfortunately, that shows me that it's used, but not where. My big concern was that there was a virus on the server that slipped by the firewall and AV protection.

I actually JUST found the problem, though... and it kind of blows. I was having a problem compiling Apache earlier this month, so the management company did it for me. When they did, though, apparently they left off the mod_deflate that had been on Apache for at least a year.

Without my data being compressed, obviously, the heavier load used more bandwidth.

Now, the question is whether the management company will recognize that the error was on their end, and refund me for the additional usage, or if I'm stuck with it :-(
