Transferring site from one WHM server to another

We have an account with a dedicated IP on server 1 and want to move it to server 2 (both are in the same rack at the data center). To greatly reduce downtime we figure if we keep the same IP so DNS caching wouldn't screw us. We'd like to transfer the site, keep the DNS zones on server 1 as they are, which would be mirrors of the new zones on server 2. The guys at our data center seem to indicate this is possible just through WHM and with root access as long as we know the right subnet. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm assuming the order of operations would be something like:
1) Transfer site
2) Release IP from server 1 (no sure how to do this)
3) Add IP to server 2 (with the same subnet from server 1?)
4) Apply IP to account
5) Delete account from server 1

You can easily migrate your site to new server with the same IP.

1) Transfer site

2) Release IP from server 1 (no sure how to do this)
Try to add one temporary IP on your old server and change the site IP. Once your IP is free you can easily remove that from your old server.

3) Add IP to server 2 (with the same subnet from server 1?)
Add that IP on your new server and assign that for the account.

Hello,

These steps should work as expected. Regarding the second step, you would first assign a different IP address to the account on the source server, then remove the IP address via:

"WHM Home » IP Functions » Show or Delete Current IP Addresses"

Your data center/hosting provider should be able to let you know the specific subnet mask to use when adding the IP address on the destination server.

Thank you.
