In the last month, my server has crashed four times. I have no clue why this is happening. A reboot fixes the problem. I am unable to find the logs that will tell me what was going on during the crash. /var/log/messages is the only log file with any useful information about the server, but it has no record of anything going wrong. Can you telll me which log files I should dig through or how I can increase the level of logging in order to find out what the hell is crashing my server?

    Thank you.

Today my server crashed twice within three hours.

There is *nothing* in the logs. I'm going to request a chassis swap after I back up everything tonight.

Note... nothing in /var/logs/messages is at all weird. Looked at every log file I can find and I'm not getting any information. Reps state that there is nothing dumped to screen. Do they really check?

overheating can cause odd crashes... check for proper ventilation and cooling... check all fans - perhaps one died.

    Hi,

First, ask to your IDC to verify and test all hardware - hds, memory, etc.
Second, verify your users and execute a TOP comand and post here

When you server fails, the ping command works ? The server is still "pingable" ?
