How is this done.? I have read around and cannot seem to find the answers I am looking for. I like to custom compile all my kernels and dont care for these "canned" kernel updates they are bulky and lame. Is it something in the yum.conf I need to specify? I am confused. Thanks ahead of time.

    Go on, have a guess
If you're using a yum updated system (Fedora, CentOS, etc), then you'd put the following near the top of /etc/yum.conf:

exclude=kernel* httpd* perl* mysql* php* mod_ssl* imap* spamassassin* squirrelmail*
