    Need help reverting back to std named as this has screwed the dns system.

    Ouch, the risk of running scripts in /scripts ;)

    You could try removing any bind rpms and then run /scripts/sysup to get the correct ones installed (make a backup of /etc/named.conf and /var/named just in case beforehand).
