Unable to change password

Hello,

I have looked for the solution of my problem but didn't find anything.
I try to change password for my user in cPanel but I receive an error:

Code: 
Your password has been changed!
ftpmySQLPostgreSQLFrontPageThe following services were updated:(if any)
Changing password for user american.
passwd: unable to start pam
After that cPanel use the old password.
Do you have any solution how to fix it?
