an extremely odd error is occurring with my install. I have tried through various ways to delete two folders on my machine however no matter what i do, it wont delete.

I have tried ssh, cpanel, winscp, ipswitch ftp, and nothing can remove the files. The system wont let me change the file permissions either. no matter what i do, even using root, im met with permission denied.

now i can move the two folders anywhere i wish on the server, and i can delete any other files as i choose or see fit, but it will not let me delete them. no matter what folder they are located in.

    anyone have suggestions?:confused::confused::confused:

    thanks!

Please login to your server via ssh and check the folder attributes with the following command

(I suppose you are already in the folder that has the issue)

    lsattr filename

If your output is something like this

    root@server [/home/user/public_html/testfolder]# lsattr filename
    -----a------- filename
    or
    -----i------- filename

It means that the attributes for the folder has been changed, You need to change the attributes for the folder with the following command

    root@server [/home/user/public_html]# chattr -a testfolder
    or
    root@server [/home/user/public_html]# chattr -i testfolder

Than you can delete/edit your folder as you want.

    my output was

    ------------ filename
    ------------ filename

should i still do the chattr command?

i still cant delete the bloody thing :(

    Hi,

let me know the exact folder name which you want to delete & also let me know the error you are getting while removing it.

they are deleted there is a process holding them open
you will need to kill the process that's holding them open

lsof | grep /path to file

error: unable to delete, permission denied.

the folders lay in my public_html folder and i have renamed them delete and delete 2. they appear to contain css/png/image files under the garland folder name.

i will try that later today, thanks.
