One ofour accounts has a wordpress site on it and suddenly we cannot load the index.php file in ../wp-admin resulting in a blank page and effectively an unchangeable site.

Loaded up File Manager to attempt too add some debugging lines to the index.php file but was unable to modif any of the files or their permissions - getting an error message of
"Could not write “/home/xxxxxx/public_html/wp-admin/index.php”: Permission denied" and we are unable to save any permission changes?

Is there a fix for this?

searching around a bit it appears that this could be an <eval(base64_decode hack. Is there a removal script or tool?

    Hello :)

Could you provide more details on what leads you to believe it's a base64_decode exploit? What are the permissions and ownership values on the index.php file referenced in the error message?

    Thank you.
