I am trying to download a backup of a MySQL database for a customer. Everything seems fine to me but the customer states the database if full of 'garbage' (random ascii code) and he isn't able to import it. How do I get rid of this? or how to get get a clean backup?

ask him to try retrieve the backup and not to open the file and see. if he is unable to do it.. make a backup using the commandline and send him as a text file.

Just a silly question - is the backup compressed? If so, he/she should try viewing it with something that uncompresses it first!
