Hi. Yesterday I upgraded my server to WHM 7.2 and since then haven't been able to send mail out in pine. I edited /etc/pine.conf and added "localhost/novalidate-cert" as the smtp server, as suggested on this forum recently as a exim4 fix. But now when I try to send mail out in pine, pine just gives me this error:

[Mail not sent: email client.]

Does anyone know how to interpret this? What is my next step in troubleshooting it? thanks

Mark

Interesting on the message. We've had a couple of users using Eudora as their remote mail client and they have been getting an error of '550 mail client', and nothing gets sent.

I'd love to know what the 'mail client' error is all about.

One other things, I believe pine uses the 'mail' binary. Be sure it has o+rx on it.

Fixed it.

When using IMAP in pine, the IMAP server sees the connection as coming from 127.0.0.1 (localhost) and adds that to /etc/relayhosts. However, exim was seeing the connection for SMTP as coming from my "regular" IP address (64.x.x.x), which is not permitted to relay. I manually added this address on the "hostlist relay_hosts" line in /etc/exim.conf..restarted exim .. and it seems to be working fine now
