try running it verbose or something to pinpoint the failure or timeout

sh -x upcp

that should do the trick

If you want real indepth details try : strace sh -x upcp

- btw i didnt learn this stuff in books , people shared it with me

The original problem you described, did it LOCKUP your box? I'm set to automatic updates, and the past two days my box has locked up at 12:05am. I was able to duplicate this problem by manually running /scripts/upcp or through the WHM's link to it.

I'm totally puzzled as to why it locks up!

If this were happening to you, where would you start? :)

My Cpanel refused to update after I cancelled several updates halfway through.
The RPM rebuild did the trick!

So if you cancel an upgrade and nothing else works including rebuilding your rpm database in WHM... try this. Worked for me.. my box is upgrading to the newest version again.
