I had this problem on the sync'ing part of the upgrade procedure. It was because I had phpMyAdmin set to chattr +i making it uneditable.

If you've made any cPanel files uneditable with chattr +i and your upcp is freezing on the sync part then I suggest you just
    Code:
    chattr -Ri /usr/local/cpanel/base
Once you do that you'll need to go to Background Processes and find all of the ones named (upcp). When you find em' (usually 2 of them), write down their process number and go into SSH and type.

    Code:
    kill [B]<NUMBER>[/B]
    kill [B]<NUMBER>[/B]
    Then lastly run upcp again.
