Update MySQL before migrate to new server?

Hi there!
We're about to migrate to an new server.

The current one is running MySQL 5.1.73. Should we better upgrade MySQL to 6.5 before moving to the new server?
Or OK to just move the backups from 5.1 to 6.5?

Reason is that we will need two service windows to do both the update and the migrate..

Hello

It's up to you if you want to upgrade MySQL on the source server first to see how your MySQL-based websites respond. It might be better to upgrade first to work out any compatibility issues and then transfer the accounts.
