I occasionally see [update_quota_ca] in the process list.

What is that? Part of the disk quota or bandwidth monitoring?

Unfortunately the only reference I can find to it is dozens of hacked sites in Google where it happens to be in the task list.

It sounds like that's potentially /usr/local/cpanel/bin/update_quota_cache

As the name suggests, this refers to updating various quota caches on the cPanel server.

Of course I'd need to see the process itself running to verify -- but it seems most plausible.

Next time you see it, feel free to run:

    Code:
    lsof -p ###
where "###" is the Process ID of the process. This will give more detailed information about the process.

On my boxes update_quota_cache takes a fraction of a second to complete. If your server was under heavy load, however, I could see that it would hang around in the process list a bit longer.
