Updating FreeBSD src

I want to update the src on a FreeBSD server running 4.8 release to 5.3. It currently has CPanel installed, along with a ton of sites.

Will updating the src to the latest 5.3 src totally break CPanel?

I've updated the src before CPanel is installed and then CPanel installed fine, but I’ve not tried this yet on a box which is in use with CPanel currently installed.
