From over on the cPanel Blog:

Paper Lantern is still in development, but we are getting closer to shipping Paper Lantern as the default theme for cPanel & WHM. Our timeline has only a few more releases before support for x3 is dropped, so it’s time to start thinking about switching over to Paper Lantern permanently.

    Upgrade to Paper Lantern
To upgrade your customers to Paper Lantern, navigate to WHM’s Modify/Upgrade Multiple Accounts interface (Home >> Multi Account Functions >> Modify/Upgrade Multiple Accounts). Choose Paper Lantern from the Theme menu and select the account that you wish to upgrade.

How do you get to the Paper Lantern theme that looks like X3? Haven't been able to find that one anywhere.

The Feature, "Change Style" must be enabled for the Package the account(s) are on. If it is, you should find the option to "Change Style" under the top right menu in Paper Lantern header. Where your cPname is showing.

    HTH!

I haven't seen a Paper Lantern theme that looks like the X3 theme? X3 is better in terms of using screenspace. Not that much scrolling than when using Paper Lantern. But beside that I don't see any issues with Paper Lantern.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm a fan of the paper lantern style but the retro style helps a bit :)

    Hello,

Select "Search by User" and leave the field empty. Then click on "Select Matching Users".

    Thank you.

PLEASE do not delete X3. It is a far superior theme to PL. It is fully functional and actually has a LOT of features that PL is missing. See my post in the other discussion thread. PL is no where near ready for live production yet.

Once I have (hopefully) been able to address the issues with PL and set up custom themes, how do I make it so that the two canned themes (standard and retro) are not available for my clients? I want them to have the use of just my array of custom themes.

    Hello,

You can utilize the /var/cpanel/themes.conf file as mentioned on the following post:

    Prevent users from changing theme

    Thank you.

I just learned that there is a script called /scripts/pl_update_users that will set all users to the Paper Lantern theme, with the Retro style.

I had to run this manually after my 11.52 > 11.54 upgrade, since it failed to run automatically. This issue was traced to a problem with the /var/cpanel/users file. Several customers had the wrong OWNER listed (an effect of migrating some users via full move backup files years ago -- a likely old bug in cPanels restore process for full move files)

We have an internal case (cPanel-4003) which will update the script to handle owner corruption in the /var/cpanel/users file much more gracefully. The bug fix should be in 11.54.0.10 and thereafter.
