    Hi everyone,

a customer just let me know, that he isn't able to upload more than 1998 files in one directory.
It looks, like it's actually the number of files, that is the limiting factor, since the files are all very small.
Any file I try to upload after the 1998th, is being uploaded, but doesn't show up, neither with a FTP Client, nor shell.

So far I've only tried this with a directory above of public_html.
The strange thing is, that this folder doesn't even show up in the shell....

Does anyone know about a general problem with more than 1998 files in one directory, or is it maybe just e specific problem with this one folder above public_html?
(Just suspecting this might be the case, since the above mentioned folder doesn't show properly)

    in short:
does anyone know about a problem with uploading more than 1998 files in a single directory?
    or
does anyone know about a problem with uploading more than 1998 files in a single directory above public_html?

    Thanks for any input!

    alright, issue "solved".
There was no issue to begin with, it looks like it was just a problem with the ftp client not being able to show more than 1998 files :S

    sorry to bother you. :)

SmartFTP was the client I used, and it's not able to display more than 1998 files.

I used the File Manager in cpanel as a workaround.

Why don't you use the Free (and decent gui) client filezilla for FTP on windows. It's free and better than cute FTP.

Take a look at /etc/pure-ftpd.conf (if you use pure-ftpd)

    Code:
    # 'ls' recursion limits. The first argument is the maximum number of
    # files to be displayed. The second one is the max subdirectories depth

    LimitRecursion [b]2000[/b] 8
