I have one server where uploaded images using Drupal and other php based cms systems have suddenly started getting the wrong file permissions so they don't show up on the web. They should (and had been) uploaded with 644 file permissions (user owned files).

The data center did a kernel upgrade but I don't know how that could have screwed this up, but it does seem coincidental.

Oddly enough I don't have the file permission issue on a WordPress site I just tested.

Never mind, this has been fixed. it was a php handler issue. Apparently, somehow the PHP Handler for 5 had been unset as FastCGI. It was reset and now uploads/file permissions work again. How it got unset I don't know.
