    Hi,

Nobody answered this in the WHM section, so I am hoping somebody here will take pity on me:

I have searched and found about every DNS entry help except the one I need.

On the WHM server, I want to have a DNS entry as follows:
    - the DNS is managed by us
    - the mail mx goes to us, as does mail.domain.com
    - web www access goes to a web hosting site somewhere at a third party where the web site lives
    - access without the www (domain.com) also goes to the website elsewhere
    - ftp goes to website server as well
    - cpanel, webmail (www.domain.com/webmail) comes to us even though website does not
    - assume we cannot access the server where the website is, so we cannot move it to us or change it in any way.

    TIA

I would set up the DNS zone along the following lines:
    Code:
    domain.com. IN A 1.2.3.4
    www IN A 1.2.3.4
    mail IN A 5.6.7.8
    domain.com. IN MX 0 mail.domain.com.
In the above, 1.2.3.4 is the IP address of the remote server where www.domain.com resides, and 5.6.7.8 is the IP of your server where you will accept mail.

Because the way you are setting up the DNS, www.domain.com/anything will always go to the remote server. You should be able to use http://mail.domain.com/cpanel and http://mail.domain.com/webmail instead.

    I hope this helps ;)

Seems good so far, but the mx entry in the WHM dns entry is going crazy when I try to set it to just an IP. It tries to add the domain as a suffix. What should I have the mx marker set to, to mail.domain.com or to an IP?

    Thanks

You cannot set an MX record to an IP address; you have to set it to a hostname. That is why my example is setting it to mail.domain.com, and in turn mail.domain.com sets the IP address.
