This is a repost of my problem I posted on another person's thread. It's now escalated to urgent level and I hope by creating a new thread, more people can read it and also because it seems to deviate from that thread topic.

    Here goes...

I have emails stuck in mail queue. When I look in WHM>Email>Manage Mail Queue, I see lots of emails in the queue. Some are really stuck mails but some does seems to be valid emails that got stuck somehow. One that I found is a valid mail with error below when I tried to make an email "deliver now". Then it came back with an error message saying

    Message 1Ebb8U-0006kk-Fm is not frozen
    delivering 1Ebb8U-0006kk-Fm
Connecting to ddd.com [202.75.41.xx]:25 ... failed: Connection timed out (timeout=5m)
    LOG: MAIN
    ccrbs.com [202.75.41.xx]: Connection timed out
    LOG: MAIN
    == user@ddd.com R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp defer (110): Connection timed out

But the thing is, when I ping ddd.com, it did resolve to the same IP and with reply.

How come when sending email, it get that Connection timed out error?

I also have the problems of emails getting delayed. I can see the email already came into the server but it got delayed delivering. I have checked and on my own email account, they got delivered 1 day late. Oh yes, I just remembered, could it be due to timezone settings? I have set the timezone on the server to GMT 8+ which is 12 hour difference from my server. But then that was set few months ago when I configured the server and it was working fine then. I don't know...any information I can give to help you guys figure out my problem.

It getting very serious now as a lot of users realized their mails did not get through and screaming at me like mad.

I also upgraded to latest cpanel RELEASE tree WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.8.1-R30. Have mailscanner installed and razor. Spamassassin 3.1.0. Was working fine before upgrade running at WHM 10.6.0 and problem just came and I don't remember installing any stuff on it.

    Please help....thanks in advance.

edit: I tried using gmail to send to this recipient and it did go through fine. FYT, this user@ddd.com is not on my server. It's somebody else's server.

Did you ping from your server? Have you looked at the traffic to see exactly was was happening (runq -v)? Are you on any blacklists?

Need to know exactly why not sending. 5 minutes is a long tme to retry in the first place.

On time zones - you should set both times to the same. No reason not too. Hardware clock and software clock should be the same.

I am still waiting for reply from user@ddd.com whether we are blacklisted or not. But I doubt it. Most probably we are not.

    No problem pinging the domain.

    #ping ddd.com
    PING ddd.com (202.75.xx.xx) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from 202.75.xx.xx: icmp_seq=0 ttl=110 time=501 ms
    64 bytes from 202.75.xx.xx: icmp_seq=1 ttl=110 time=475 ms
    64 bytes from 202.75.xx.xx: icmp_seq=2 ttl=110 time=476 ms

Second, what does this runq -v does? I typed this command and i get :

    #runq -v
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    Start queue run: pid=15038
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    End queue run: pid=15038

    Is that right?

I tried the command again but this time, I get different pid :

    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    Start queue run: pid=15552
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    End queue run: pid=15552

    What gives?

Anyway, I am more concerned with the delayed email. Anyone can guide me to tackling this problem? What logs to check and what commands to run? What option to monitor and where in WHM I can get help.....

    Thanks in advance.

runq shows what is actually being sent to another server at that time. Try forcing delivery of one of those message through WHM while watching the queue. You will see the communication between your server and theirs.

For blacklist - check the spam lists at dnsstuff.com - middle column, top.

    oh man...this doesn't look good :

    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    Start queue run: pid=17139
delivering 1Ebrkv-0004SB-ER (queue run pid 17139)
    LOG: MAIN
== user1@mydomain.net R=defer_router defer (-1): All deliveries are handled by MailScanner
    LOG: MAIN
== user2@mydomain.net R=defer_router defer (-1): All deliveries are handled by MailScanner
    LOG: MAIN
== user3@mydomain.net R=defer_router defer (-1): All deliveries are handled by MailScanner
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    End queue run: pid=17139

    root@df# runq -v
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    Start queue run: pid=17169
delivering 1Ebrl1-0004SB-RK (queue run pid 17169)
    LOG: retry_defer MAIN
==user1@mydomain.net routing defer (-51): retry time not reached
    LOG: retry_defer MAIN
== user2@mydomain.net routing defer (-51): retry time not reached
    LOG: retry_defer MAIN
== user3@mydomain.net routing defer (-51): retry time not reached
    LOG: queue_run MAIN
    End queue run: pid=17169

It's valid users from my own domain!!! Why?!!? I was working fine before this.

another thing i found out....from dnsstuff.com (btw, this is great site). When I search my domain, it came out with no RED stuff (which is good).

But when I search the ddd.com, I get this message :

Sorry, ddd.com is not an IP address, and I couldn't easily obtain the MX record for ddd.com.
Try again using an IP address.

    FOUND this problem!!!

"202.75.41.28 has no reverse DNS entry; some mail servers may not accept your mail."

    Darn it...

Anyway, more importantly, the delayed problem....any idea?

my clients are having the same kind of problem, I even tried un-installing some modificiation I did about 6 months to /etc/exim.conf.. to reduce spam. then i re-installed exim too...

It did'nt work, clients complain that thr emails dont reach thr recipients and they dont get a bounced back emails either.

I see the emails with more then one email address as recepeient (CCs) or any other kind... they give operation timed out error, I'm not sure if this is right.. as if operation times out on one email.. shud'nt it move to the next email address in same message?????? if thr r more then one pending email addresses?????

or the emails get delayed or dont reach at all...

anyone have any idea what i shud do?

i did, DNS is working fine... i think the problem is with my server

as whenever my clients try to send same email to more then one person "CCs"
if one of the emails fails.. it goes to queue... thats normal.. but i tried send it manually thru WHM and it just freezes at that email address... which email does'nt work.. n does'nt sends the emails after it...which shud'nt be the case.. it shud send email to rest of the emails which are working..

yup, i notice this problem too where if one of the email recipient's mailbox is full, the whole email will not go through. I this bad...

But I am having a bigger problem now.

I am now having problems where exim or whatever email subsystems tends to fail. I came back from holiday today and got lots of complains about people getting error when they try to sent email to us. I have been lots of such complain for the pass few weeks that users say they can't sent email to us. For whatever reason, when I test using gmail, it always works except for the delay problem.

I restarted exim and now it seems to be working. I can't really test as this problem is very random. Every now and then people will get problems of not able to sent email to our server. Please help me...

Need to check exim logs and see what error messages there are. Not enough information to help.

What error did the people sending receive from your server?

what is your version of cpanel and exim now?

I think I will try upgrading as well. I am running WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.8.1-R30. Not sure how to check exim version. Maybe it's this :

    root [~]# rpm -qa exim*
    exim-4.52-7_cpanel_smtpctl_av_rewrite_mm2_mmmtrap_exiscan_md5pass

From the rpm, I think I am running exim 4.52.

    hmm....

    #/scripts/eximup

    Exim Setup Script Version 20.0
Fetching version information from http://updates.cpanel.net/eximinstall/version (RELEASE)....Done
This is the exim 4.52 installer release number 7 for platform redhat AS-3
exim is up to date. Use eximup --force to force a reinstall

    -----------

Perhaps I need to do a forceupdate?

edit: ahh....I see you are running maildir. I did not go for maildir.
