We are planning to run incremental backups at new drives at the same server, but on a monthly basis run compressed backups to a external server in case of any kind of server disaster.

This way we are able to run efficient backups and use plugins like Restore Manager to allow clients restoring their files by themselves.

Do you have any advice regarding this backup schedule and how to automate the compressed backups to an external location?

Hello :)

The "Incremental" backup option allows only one backup. This option does not allow users to include Additional Destinations, and you can not combine both "Incremental" and "Compressed" backups at this time. I suggest opening a feature request for this functionality via:

Submit A Feature Request

One workaround that may help in the meantime is to enable legacy backups as well, and configure it to run at a separate time than the standard backups for your compressed backup requirements.

Thank you.

Do you know if this uses pigz for faster and more efficient backups?

Also, I'm aware that Amazon S3 will be released at cPanel 11.42. Do you know if there's any other backup improvoments that would allow us to run local and remote backups for disaster purposes?

Hi,
Restore Manager 3 have a new feature that allow you to rsync the incremental and other backup types to remote backup server.
Also, clients can now restore from any backup type but if you have the disk space better use the incremental backup to save system resources.

You can enable Pigz globally under the "Compression" tab in "WHM Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings". There are no such additional features planned for cPanel version 11.42 but I encourage you to open a new feature request for anything that's not yet found on cPanel Feature Requests.

Thank you.
