I'm curious about the directory structure for my user's mail dirs.

While poking around the server, I notice that typically I'll find this sort of structure...

    Code:
    /home/username/mail ls -l

    drwxrwx--- * *5 username mail * * * * 4096 Jul 14 06:43 ./
    drwx--x--x * *8 username username * * 4096 Jul 26 19:05 ../
    drwxr-x--- * *2 username mail * * * * 4096 Dec *2 *2003 mboxname1/
    -rw-rw---- * *1 username mail * * *1309896 Jul 14 06:43 inbox
    drwxr-xr-x * *4 username mail * * * * 4096 Dec *2 *2003 domain.com/
    drwxr-x--- * *2 username mail * * * * 4096 Dec *2 *2003 mboxname2/

    Then if I cd domain.com...

    Code:
    /home/username/mail/domain.com ls -l

    drwxrwx--- * *5 username mail * * * * 4096 Jul 14 06:43 ./
    drwx--x--x * *8 username mail * * 4096 Jul 26 19:05 ../
    drwxr-x--- * *2 username mail * * * * 4096 Dec *2 *2003 mboxname1/
    drwxr-x--- * *2 username mail * * * * 4096 Dec *2 *2003 mboxname2/

What my question is, is that both '/home/username/mail/mboxname1/' and '/home/username/mail/domain.com/mboxname1/' have inboxes. At first I thought (keep in mind I'm a *nix neophite) that one was a hard-link to the other, but in some cases, the modified dates of these dup inboxes is the same, and in others it's not... in fact off by a few days.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this for me?

TIA for helping me learn :)

I did use the search button. That's how I found this thread. Which, by the way, contains no useful answers.

I have issues with forum posters who belittle others by telling them to search. Why not give a useful link to a thread that addresses the poster's question, rather than just making the poster feel less than appreciated?

Thaphantom is a little unfriendly at times ;) but I do understand the point. Most questions that are asked have been answered before and just need to be found. Some answers are harder to find than others.

From the search page, enter mail inboxes and half of the first 10 threads will have the answer.
