    Hello,

Is it possible to have more then 8 characters for a username?
Where or what do I need to do to make it for example 12 characters?

    Thanks

    To answer you question, No.
And, it isn't possible and not worth trying ;)

This would also interest me, It's not something 'vital' but why was the username capped at 8 characters and not something like 16 characters?

Could someone from Cpanel maybe comment on this? :) (unless this is an old topic and has been mentioned before)

    Thanks

Old unix standard. Usernames could not be more than 8 char.

    That's really weird,

I have a new customer coming from a cPanel hosting on linux, and he had a login name with 10 characters. Just wonder how they did it then.

IMO, I think it should be revised, there is no uppercase possible and only 8 characters.

You can create a user of more than 8 characters but it will be truncated to 8 automagically ;)

    Go on, have a guess
One of the reasons that cPanel still enforces 8 character usernames is because of the naming convention of MySQL databases and the length restrictions that were/are on them.
