I just installed the trial and have some troubles. I'm behind a router so my box had been assigned an internal IP...not sure if that makes a differance or not.

I want to use cPanel with external DNS servers, which is to say I don't want to run a DNS server at all. How would I go about doing that and what are the concequences with that?

There's no issue with that. Just add the appropriate external servers in WHM > Basic cPanel/WHM Settings under primary and secondary servers. Make sure you're not listing your own servers IP address as a resolver in WHM > Resolver Configuration.

You will then, of course, have to manually maintain your DNS records on your master and slave external DNS servers.
