Is it safe to use the /usr partition for Web Host Manager's backup function? What we want to do is have WHM create backups on the /usr partition, and transfer them to another server on a weekly basis. The size of the /usr partition is 40 GB, so in terms of space there definitely isn't a problem.

As long as you watch the space there's no problem, but make sure your backup is NOT set to use mounting/unmounting.

Hah yeah, that would be a really bad idea. Although, the /usr partition would probably just show up as busy and it could not unmount it.

It might not unmount it since it would be in use, but I haven't tried it myself. Anyone out there wanna try it? ;)
