I'm working on a small tool for my cPanel customers (end users). My customers will expect to be able to login with the same username and password they use in cPanel.

I can validate the username and password very simple by acting like a browser logging in to cPanel. But if this succeeds, it will be logged, and the next time the customer logs into cPanel he will see "Last login from" set to localhost. Not good.

I could try FTP, POP3 or IMAP, but do any of you know of any problems they would have? (I'm not sure what is logged and what's not)

Or maybe you have another idea of how to achieve this validation?

I looked at the Cpanel::Accounting perl module, but that seemes unusable for this purpose.

Use username/password provided to connect to mysql. If you connect, it is a valid combination. Never tried but it should work.

That won't work. The customer handles mysql accounts completely separate from the cPanel accounts.
