Some of our cPanel servers have a /var partition that is limited to only 8GB or so. Others do not have a /var partition. But of course these include a /var directory that is included as a part of the overall/main disk partition.

How can I get rid of the /var partition without of course deleting the included /var directory?

We have some hosted customers that are starting to use really large MySQL databases, and this /var partition is being over run.

Is it as easy as editing the fstab and rebooting?

I believe you would need to do the following - this requires you to be physically at the machine (always a good idea when editing a critical file such as fstab anyway)

    1) Reboot into single user mode
    2) Mount the var partition somewhere else and copy the contents to /var
    3) Edit fstab, comment out /var
    4) Unmount the var partition and reboot

Thanks much for your responses. It is really apprecaited.

Problem is, I am approximately 2,000 miles away from being physically at the machine.
