Very Basic Clues/Hints Needed

Hi,

I now have a hosted website and am missing something. It would be appreciated if I could a hint/clue as to what I do next on my own. CPanel works fine. However, if I try to access the site by using www.xxxx.com the response is -

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Yes, there appears to be a basic gap in my knowledge and I searched Google without any success.

try connect to ftp.xxxx.com w/ your main account and make sure public_html is 755, 644 or has public read access at least

I found some answers at the website in the subject bar.
What I was stumbling over was how to get the html stuff on my computer to the right place on my website. Well, I am off and running as they say.
