Is there anyway to see how many pop connections are at the same time?
Is there anything I can do to reduce the amount of cpu used by cppop?

    Best regards

    Go on, have a guess
You can list the POP connections with:

    netstat -autpn | grep :110

Restricting POP acces can be done in WHM > Tweak Settings > with:
Attempt to prevent pop3 connection floods
The number of times users are allowed to check their mail using pop3 per hour

For the latter I would suggest a value of 60 is more than enough.

The main problem with cppop from a performance perspective is those users that insist on using the horrible "leave messages on the server" option in their email clients. This can create a massive overhead on the server when using mbox format as cppop does, since the whole mbox file has to be read and processed just to extract a few emails. If that's the issue then migrating to maildir will almost certainly improve performance since that works on an email per file basis.
