Very simple question, should I use subdomain or directory in my domain

Hello, I am thinking about setting up a site for a friend onto my site, and I have used a subdomain before so they would have cpanel access, but can I simply just create a directory named after their site so their site would have the url www.my_site.com/his_site/ ? Would that pose as a security risk or anything if I only allow him FTP access to that directory? Thanks

To be able to give a user access to just a subdirectory, you still need to create it as a subdomain. You can then go to your ftp manager to give him ftp access to just that subdirectory.

As far as security risk, anyone with an account of any kind on the same server can be a security risk, but by default, it's pretty safe. He can't get to the root of your site without "trying to".

If you have a reseller account, the best solution is to give him a full account with the subdomain. Just create an account with the URL being sub.domain.com.

The real reason I choose not to use a subdomian is because I would like my domain to be easily accessed instead of the visitor to my friend's sites to manually type out www.mysite.com. In fact I changed my mind and wont give them FTP or Cpanel access, I will setup the site for them.
